Financial PlanningWe are struggling to find a way to adequately describe financial planning. Good financial planning is not about insurance or any other financial product. It is not about income tax or estate planning or wills. It includes all these things and more but only as tools to help achieve your goals. All of these things matter, but what is really important is the goal.We use tax planning, investment advice, insurance planning, and any thing else we can think of to increase your goal's likelihood of success. We start with the goal, which we may need to help you define. Also, some goals are unrealistic. It is also our duty to tell you what we think is not reasonable. We do not sell products or earn commissions. The only thing we have to sell is our time.In many areas, we do not have the necessary expertise or licensing. We have professionals that we work with that we would refer you to in these areas. We only work with professionals that see client relationships in the same way we do. Also, we would maintain the overall client relationship. For example, we would never write a will or living trust. These are attorney functions. But, we certainly can work with the attorney so that the documents mesh with the rest of the financial plan.Typical questions we are asked in this area include educational funding, investment advice, retirement planning, selection of insurance, incapacity or end of life issues, and the list goes on.
